The body has a predictable physiologic response when it loses a significant amount of blood. Significant blood loss, either through internal
or external bleeding, causes a progression of signs that you can see in a patient.
Shock is a life-threatening condition that develops when the circulatory system cannot deliver sufficient blood to body tissues. There are
many causes including blood loss, cardiac failure, respiratory failure and spinal cord injury. A common factor in all types of shock is inadequate
perfusion of body tissues. If inadequate perfusion continues, organ failure, and eventually death, will occur.
