ROC 103c — ROC-ON (ROC PRIMED Refresher)
Summary
The following key points were covered in this module:
1. Purpose of the ROC PRIMED Trial is to compare the outcomes of cardiac arrest therapies.
2. Analyze EARLY means — do CPR for at least 30 seconds then analyze.
3. Analyze LATE means — do CPR for 3 minutes then analyze.
4. New CPR standards include DVD-R:
Depth
Hard at 1½ to 2 inches
Ventilations
1 second duration; enough to make the chest rise
Decompression
Complete recoil
Rate
Fast (100/min); minimize interruptions
5. For the ITD to be effective you must:
- Maintain a continuous face seal at all times — even when not ventilating
- Compress the chest a full 1½ to 2 inches
- Let the chest recoil completely during decompression
6. Inclusion criteria
- Local age of consent
- Non-traumatic cardiopulmonary arrest outside of hospital
7. Exclusion criteria
- Do not attempt resuscitation orders
- Blunt or penetrating trauma
- Burns
- Obvious death (and no resuscitation attempted)
