Remove the ITD immediately if:

• Patient establishes a pulse
• ITD breaks or does not function properly
• ITD fills with fluid and requires emptying more than once*
• ITD cannot be cleared*

*Follow local protocol if different

Resume use of the ITD immediately if a patient returns to cardiac arrest. Remove the ITD when you transfer the patient's care to the ED staff. Never leave an ITD in the emergency room.
