About This Site
EMS Online
This website was developed by King County EMS for EMS professionals as an alternative for completing the cognitive objectives of the annual competency-based
training (CBT) or on-going training and evaluation (OTEP) courses. These continuing education courses are accessible only to EMS providers who have established accounts.
Your
training officer can submit your name and obtain a username and password for you.

I had to go on a call in the middle of taking an exam. Now it says
I can't take the exam. What do I do?
Exams are timed out after 15
minutes. In order for you to be able to take the exam the failed score needs
to be deleted from your account.
EMS Online Technical Support can only delete exams with permission from your
training officer. Have him or her send an e-mail to help@emsonline.net giving
permission to reset your failed exam. Once the exam has been reset
you will be notified via e-mail.

Internet Connection/Speed
We recommend a high-speed connection such as DSL, cable modem, local LAN to play video and audio media. An Internet browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) is required.

Case Studies and Practice Exams
You will find the case studies and the practice exams helpful in preparing for the exam. You must have Adobe Flash Player 9 (or higher) installed to use the case studies and practice exams.

Recertification Exams
You can complete the "recertification" exam for each course on this site. You have two chances to pass each on-line exam.
If you are in the middle of an exam and must go on an emergency call:
- CLOSE the current browser window by clicking the X button in the top right corner of your browser.
- Report the incident number, time of the call and course number to your training officer. He or she will forward the information to KC EMS.
|
If you fail an exam twice, you must contact your training officer to develop a remediation plan before you will be allowed additional chances at passing the course. NOTE: Your browser should be set to "accept cookies" and "always
allow session cookies" from this website, otherwise you will not be able to log on to the exam. (See FAQ's).

Practical Exams
For King County EMTs, you must complete a practical exam administered by a CBT Evaluator in addition to passing the recertification
exam administered on this site. Your skills checklist from the practical exam should be kept with your department's records. You cannot
obtain recertification without completing this requirement.

How to Take an Exam
Exams are accessible from each course page in the left column by clicking the heading Exam. Read the Exam Intro page and then re-enter
your password (this is for security purposes). Once you have started an exam, you cannot quit or it will be scored with a 0.
You must answer all questions and press the 'submit' button on the bottom of the exam page to receive credit for all
your answers. Do not close the window with the X button in the top right corner or your score will be recorded as a zero. You have 15 minutes
to complete an exam. Do not attempt to copy any portion of an exam.

Tips for taking the online exam
- The on-line recertification exam can be taken twice.
- Do not click the X in the top right hand corner of your browser window to close the window when taking an exam. Doing so will give you a failing score.
- Exit your Web browser to log off when you're done viewing a course or taking an exam; exit the browser to re-log on. The system automatically logs you
off if the browser sits idle for more than 15 minutes.
